Geodesic Dome Home
In architectural terms, a geodesic dome is a rigid freestanding three-dimensional arch.  In simpler terms, a some does not require any internal walls to support the roof, which allows for unusually open and flowing floor plans.  Walls can be added and removed with relative ease to divide the living spaces as desired.  Geodesic domes are often used in extremely harsh weather environments become of their inherent strength and stability in high winds.  Their more exotic uses include enclosures for mountain top observatories, enclosures for large radar antennas in Alaska and housing is credited with the design of the first geodesic dome in the 1060's and for promoting their use in home architecture.
